Just a few years back in the WWE, The Undertaker was just like a synonym of fear for other superstars for his deadly moves including the famous one ‘choke slam’. But apart from all this, there are also some wrestling superstars who earned a big name and fame in the WWE universe but they had gone through their darkest past in life.

So, here we’ll have a look at 5 renowned WWE superstars who survived life-threatening difficulties in their early childhoods. But later on, they stunned everyone with their success in wrestling.

CM Punk

CM Punk

The 44-year-old Chicago-based superstar CM Punk is entertaining the fans in the WWE since his debut in march 1999. He has stunned a lot of renowned WWE superstars with his amazing fighting moves and techniques in the ring. The GTS man is famous in the WWE Universe for his extraordinary implementation of the moves in the ring again any of the superstars.

But things were not similar to the present for Punk. He had to go through a lot of hard times during his childhood. Losing mother to bipolar disorder, having a dad with a strong addiction to alcohol. These things developed a sharp and straight-edged character in him. He never wanted to bring his life to the extent alcohol took his father’s life.

The severity of the family issues was to that extent for Punk that his best friend’s family adopted him in early childhood. Professional wrestling proved as a turning point in Punk’s life which came up with positive changes for the American lad.

Ric Flair

Everyone including fans and the superstars as well know him as a ‘nature boy. The fans really adore his stylish attitude and conditioned profile in the WWE. But it was not always like this for Ric Flair. Speaking of his disastrous childhood, then someone has stolen Flair from a hospital when he was a baby boy only.

The Tennessee Children’s Home Society was the place where he spent the early years of his childhood. The 72-year-old has confessed in the past that it was not an easy task to survive at the orphanage. He reckons that when Kathleen and Richard Fleihr adopted him, it was a life-defining moment for him.

But things did not become immediately easy for Flair in his childhood, he got addicted to alcohol when he was only a minor in the age. This behavior of him compelled his parents to send him to boarding studies.

It took a lot of years and Verne Gagne’s efforts with Ric Flair that the WWE universe witnessed a guy with a Figure-Four Leglock move.

AJ Styles

One of the most talented WWE superstars North Carolina ever produced in the history of wrestling. AJ Styles made his first appearance in professional wrestling in WWE back in the year 1998. He got his first major professional break three years later in 2001 during World Championship Wrestling. Since then, he is enjoying a celebrated career in WWE having some renowned titles to his name.

But the adversities still knew the address of the Phenomenal one of Wrestling in his early childhood. The 45-year-old was born and brought up in a very low-earning family having a father of a completely abusive and alcoholic nature. The creator of Styles Clash also admitted in the interviews that he was never a fan of WWE because he couldn’t even watch it as his family was not in a condition to bear the expenses of a cable.

He accepted it the previous time that his school friends who were involved in wrestling at that time were the only reason to compel him toward this unique sports profession in the world.  Since then, the rest is history and Styles keeps stunning everyone with his phenomenal forearm and multiple iconic moves. He is now one of the superstars who have more than one or two moves to knock out the opponent.

Booker T

A handsome career of almost more than two decades with the darkest past to his name. We are saying it on the grounds of Booker T’s experiences with life in the time being. At the early age of 14, Booker T lost his parents in the year 1979. Following that the court sentenced him to spend five years in prison for being involved in the armed robbery at his workplace. Although, his sentence was limited to the time period of 19 months.

Just after leaving the prison, he started training to pursue his career in professional wrestling as his elder brother Stevie Ray insisted on the same. The Houston-based prodigy got his first center stage in World Wrestling Alliance. They both continued working on it even after the early end of WWA.

Later on, things changed to 180 degrees for Booker T when Skandar Akbar signed them in a contract for the Global Wrestling Federation.  It brought a massive change in Booker T’s career when he started his stint in WCW in 1993.

R Truth

Another wrestling sensation from North Carolina who was also born and brought up seeing poverty very closely. He had to sell marijuana alongside his father to complete the daily basic needs of their poor and average-earning family. Truth went on to leave his studies meanwhile after high school to experiment with his life in the music industry.

For the sake of funding his music career in those days, the situation made him sell drugs and illegal stuff which eventually led him to a sentence of 13 months. Truth continued to keep his music career on track by living in a halfway house after he came out of prison.

Being fed up with the failures and no improvement, he met NWA’s Jackie Crockett and opened up about his willingness to pursue a career as a professional career. Even after making his debut in PWF in 1997, Truth had to spend the next three years in training while surviving around the roads. But everything changed and now, he is the fourth African American wrestler to win a World Heavyweight Title in professional wrestling.
