In a groundbreaking move at the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 auction, UP Warriorz secured the services of 22-year-old batter Vrinda Dinesh for a staggering Rs 1.3 crore. This marked her as the first uncapped Indian player to command a price tag exceeding ₹1 crore in the WPL auctions.
Hailing from Karnataka, Vrinda has been a standout performer on the domestic circuit, showcasing her prowess with the bat. In the senior women's one-day competition earlier this year, Vrinda played a pivotal role in Karnataka's runner-up finish. Accumulating a total of 477 runs in 11 innings at an impressive average of 47.70, she demonstrated her big-hitting skills.
Notably, her crucial knock of 81 in the semi-final against Rajasthan paved the way for Karnataka's journey to the summit clash with Railways Women. With this auction price, a lot of pressure and expectations will be on her in the upcoming edition of the game.
Kashvee Gautam becomes the most expensive uncapped player
Meanwhile, the WPL 2024 auction witnessed an intense bidding war for uncapped all-rounder Kashvee Gautam. Gautam eventually secured a staggering bid of INR 2 crore from the Gujarat Giants. This marked a historic moment, with Kashvee becoming the highest-earning uncapped Indian player in the WPL auctions.
The bidding war primarily involved the UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants, with the latter emerging victorious with the record bid. Kashvee Gautam is no stranger to the Indian cricketing landscape, having made headlines with her remarkable performance on the domestic circuit.
Originating from Chandigarh, Kashvee gained widespread recognition when she achieved the rare feat of taking all ten wickets in a domestic U-19 ODI match in February 2020. This accomplishment catapulted her into the spotlight as a future superstar for Indian women's cricket. The impressive feat occurred during a match against Arunachal Pradesh at the KSRM College ground in Andhra Pradesh.
Utilising the available swing, Kashvee dismissed all the batters either by uprooting the stumps or trapping them LBW in front of the stumps. Having embraced cricket at the age of 14, Kashvee Gautam has continually progressed, even participating in the Women's T20 Challenge organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) before the inception of the WPL. The WPL 2024 is set to witness these two dynamic players making significant contributions to their respective teams, further elevating the excitement and competitiveness of women's cricket in India.
