AB de Villiers, the superman of cricket, hung up his boots a few years back, but fans got to see a glimpse of him in the ongoing Women's Premier League (WPL). Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) Georgia Wareham brought back memories by emulating ABD's incredible acrobatic catch on the boundary line during her team's match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Thursday.

The incident took place in the 11th over of the first innings after DC was put in to bat first at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Delhi opener Shafali Verma tried to dispatch a full-length delivery from pacer Nadine de Klerk into the crowd. The ball seemed to be easily clearing the boundary line over the deep-mid wicket, but Wareham had some other plans.

The Australian cricketer, who was stationed on the boundary line, kept her eyes on the ball before going for an acrobatic one-handed dive. She was unable to get the batter out but pulled back into the field to save crucial runs for her team. Captain Smriti Mandhana was in awe as were all her teammates and the Chinnaswamy crowd went berserk by the chants of RCB and ABD.

RCB suffer their maiden defeat in WPL 2024

In a thrilling encounter, RCB lost to DC by a margin of 25 runs, suffering their first defeat of the WPL 2024 season. Before Thursday's encounter, Mandhana and Co. were the only unbeaten team in the tournament. Chasing a massive target of 195, RCB were restricted to 169/9 in 20 overs.

Skipper Mandhana registered her first fifty in the tournament history but her efforts went in vain as the rest of the batters failed to make much of an impact on the scoreboard. DC registered their second win of the tournament.
