In 2014 Rohit and co. failed to get a balanced team due to massive changes during auctions. The team lost all games during the UAE leg and was at the bottom of the points table. Mumbai managed to win the last four league matches including one against Rajasthan where they chased 190 runs in just 14.4 overs to make it into the playoffs.
In the first three seasons of the Indian T20 League, the Bangalore franchise has been tagged as the Test squad. In 2011 they made a complete revamp in the squad after retaining only Virat Kohli from the previous team. Meanwhile, their fate changed as they roped in Crish Gayle as a replacement for injured Drik Nannes.
In 2012, Chennai lost seven out of the first 12 games in the tournament and their qualification was in jeopardy. However, MS Dhoni-led team made an impressive comeback after beating Mumbai and Kolkata in the last two league games and eventually qualified for their fourth finals in the last five years.
In the 2016 season of the Indian T20 League, Bangalore had only won two of the first seven games because of poor bowling performances. In the second half of the league, Bangalore won six out of seven games as their bowling unit improved amazingly .
After beating Mumbai in the first game of the season, they failed to capitalize on momentum as they only managed to win one more in the UAE leg. The decision of replacing Jacques Kallis with Robin uthappa gave them success as they won five straight games while batting second in the last leg of the tournament.
