West Indies failed to qualify for the 2017 Champions Trophy as they couldn’t finish in the top eight teams in the rankings. In the ongoing World Cup, West Indies had the chance to progress into the Super 12s but were knocked out of the competition from the first round itself.
In both the tournaments, the Group B and Group 2 had starc similarities. India, South Africa, and Pakistan were together in the same group B during the 2017 Champions Trophy. This time around as well, the three teams were grouped together in the Group 2 in the 20-20 World Cup 2022.
As many as 8 teams played in the 2017 Champions Trophy. Three teams namely, England, New Zealand and Australia were grouped together in the Group A. Similarly, in the 20-20 World Cup 2022, all three teams were together in Group 1 of the Super 12 stage.
