Five major records set by Indian Players in International Cricket

The Indian Cricket Team played its first international match on 25^th June 1932 against England at the Lord’s. In the 90-year-long history of Indian Cricket at the international level, the ‘Men-in-Blue’ have got several remarkable achievements under their belt. Numerous Indian players have etched their names in the history books forever after having several records under their names. On that note, let’s take a look at top five records held by Indian players in international cricket.

1. Yuvraj Singh's Six Sixes in T20I

In the inaugural edition of the 20-20 World Cup in 2007, Yuvraj Singh decided to unleash his beast mode on England’s Stuart Broad following an argument with Andre Flintoff. The Southpaw took everyone by surprise and hit six consecutive sixes against the seamer. Yuvraj became the first player to hit six sixes in an over in T20 internationals and the second player overall in international cricket to achieve the feat.

2. Rohit Sharma's three double hundreds in ODI

Rohit Sharma is one of the best openers in the modern era across all three formats. The batter has been seen wreaking havoc on the opposition numerous times in international cricket. Rohit was the third player in the history of ODI cricket to score a double hundred. He further went on to score another double-hundred in 2014 against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens and became the first player to have two double-hundreds to his name in ODIs. He finished his innings at 264 which is also the highest individual score in ODI.

But it was not looking enough for Rohit Sharma to himself and he struck the third double-century against Sri Lanka in the second of the three-match ODI series. Rohit smashed this double ton five years back in 2017 at the IS Bindra PCA Cricket Stadium. The 35-year-old played an outstanding knock of 208 runs off 153 balls with 13 boundaries and four maximums to his name. Apart from this, the current skipper of the Indian team sojourned there in the middle till the last ball of the Indian innings against Sri Lanka,

3. Anil Kumble's 10 wicket haul in Tests

The wrist spinner became only the second player in the history of international cricket to pick all the ten wickets in an innings. He achieved the feat during a test against Pakistan in 1999 at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. Chasing 420 to win in the fourth innings, Pakistan got off to a great start with openers adding 101 runs for the first wicket.

Seeing his team in trouble, Kumble came to India’s rescue and began removing Pakistan batters one after the other. Courtesy of Kumble’s historic spell Pakistan were bundled out for 207 with Kumble finishing with 10/74 . His match figures read 14/ 149 as he became the second bowler to pick all 10 wickets in an innings after Jim Laker.

4. Sachin Tendulkar's 100 hundreds

Sachin Tendulkar is arguably the greatest ever batter to have graced the cricket field. The legendary player is the highest run-scorer in the Tests and ODI formats of the game. He also has the most number of centuries in both the formats. His record of scoring 100 international centuries is expected to remain untouched by any other batter for a long time. Only Virat Kohli and Ricky Ponting have come close to Tendulkar’s record who have 71 hundreds to their name.

5. Virat Kohli's most runs in T20I

The star Indian batter has carried forward the legacy of Sachin Tendulkar brilliantly by heavily scoring runs across formats. After having a torrid time with the bat off-late, Kohli has once again returned to his usual best. The 33-year-old has become the highest run-scorer in the history of T20 internationals. He has 3856 runs to his name at an average of 52.82 and a strike rate of 138.45. He has also scored 35 half-centuries which is also a record.
