India suffered a significant setback, succumbing to a comprehensive defeat against arch-rivals Pakistan by 8 wickets in the Under-19 Asia Cup clash in Dubai. The Group-A match witnessed Pakistan's dominance as they successfully chased down India's target with ease.
Talking about the match, opting to bat first after Pakistan captain Saad Baig won the toss, the Indian team began with a slow and steady opening partnership. However, they faced an early blow when Arshin Kulkarni (24) was dismissed by Amir Hasan, followed by the departure of Rudra Patel (1) at the hands of Mohammad Zeeshan.
A glimmer of hope emerged as Adarsh Singh and captain Uday Sharan crafted a substantial partnership, adding 93 runs for the third wicket. At this point, the Indian team appeared to be in a commanding position. However, the tide turned with the dismissal of Adarsh Singh (62), triggering a cascade of wickets. Musheer Khan (2) and Arveli Avneesh (11) fell cheaply.
Captain Uday Sharan, alongside Sachin Dhas, managed to stabilise the innings with a 48-run partnership, pushing the team past the 200-run mark. Sharan contributed 60 runs, but after his departure, wickets fell at regular intervals. Sachin (58) held one end but received limited support from the lower order. India concluded their innings at 259/9 in the allotted 50 overs.
Brilliant batting performance by Pakistan
Pakistan's Mohammad Zeeshan emerged as the star bowler, claiming 4 wickets for 46 runs in his 10 overs. Amir Hasan and Ubed Shah contributed with 2 wickets each, while Arafat Minhas took one wicket.
Chasing the target of 260 runs, Pakistan faced an early setback with the dismissal of Shamil Hussainu (8). However, a remarkable partnership of 110 runs between Shazaib Khan and Azan Awais for the second wicket turned the tide in Pakistan's favour. Shazaib's contribution of 63 runs laid a solid foundation.
The match further tilted in Pakistan's favour as Awais and captain Saad Baig formed an unbeaten partnership of 125 runs, guiding their team to a convincing victory. Azan's remarkable century inning of 105 runs in 130 balls played a pivotal role, while Saad Bag's quick 68 runs in 51 balls added to Pakistan's dominance. Murugan Ashwin was the lone wicket-taker for India as Pakistan achieved victory in just 47 overs.
