The first T20I of the 3-match T20I series between India and South Africa, scheduled at Kingsmead in Durban, faced a delay due to persistent rain on December 10. In the end, the match was called off without a toss. The crowd in Durban would be pretty disappointed, however, the action will continue with the 2nd match which is set to be played on December 12 at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.

Now the fans can only hope for a full-fledged match at St George’s Park with no rain interruption. Both the teams are in form and the clash would have been epic but the rain played spoilsport leaving the fans disappointed. They have shared their reactions on social media about the match being called off.

In the approaching year, the T20 World Cup takes centre stage, and both teams are eager to excel, fine-tuning their squads with in-form players. The Men in Blue navigate the series without key senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and others while the Proteas field their full-strength squad.

Approximately a month ago, South Africa faced a hard defeat against Australia in the World Cup semi-final, a bitter moment despite their excellent round-robin performance. Similarly, the Men in Blue had their aspirations shattered with a significant stumble in the finals against Australia. Although India's 4-1 victory in the T20I series against Australia, right after the World Cup, may have offered some solace, the unique pain of a World Cup loss lingers in a different way.

Meanwhile, there were speculations abound that Rohit and Kohli might not be under consideration by the selection committee for the T20I squad. Reports suggest a preference for younger players. Concurrently, there are also some rumours of both veterans continuing, with Rohit leading in the T20 World Cup. The team management's intentions and the future of Rohit and Kohli in T20Is remain uncertain, with only time revealing their course.
