Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are reportedly set to release Ben Stokes due to his anticipated unavailability for IPL 2024. Despite acquiring the England all-rounder for Rs 16.25 crore in the last mini-auction, Stokes played only two games in the season. The decision is driven by his impending left knee surgery, which requires nearly two months for recovery. The Chennai Super Kings management is cautious and unwilling to take the risk of his potential unavailability for the league scheduled from March to May 2024.

As per reports there are indication that the Chennai Super Kings  management has engaged in discussions with Ben Stokes. While Stokes initially expressed a focus on the IPL post the World Cup, CSK officials are yet to have direct contact with him, and talks with his manager have remained inconclusive regarding his availability for the upcoming season.

"We would not consider releasing Stokes if he could be available because he is a big match player, and we hold him in the highest regard. But if he can't make it to the season, we will have blocked Rs 16 crore with which we could acquire some quality players," CSK official said as per Cricbuzz
