Rafael Nadal got off to a great start in the US Open 2022 after defeating Rinky Hijikata from Australia with a score line of 6-4, 2-6, 3-6, 3-6. The last time the Spaniard won the title was way back in 2019 when he defeated Daniil Medvedev. Earlier, a video of him toiling it hard at the Arthur Ashe stadium prior to the event went viral.

The legend incurred an injury at Wimbledon earlier this year and crashed out of the Cincinnati Open earlier than expected. He missed out on most of the matches in 2020 due to the pandemic and had an injury rattled 12 months in 2021. However, post-Wimbledon, he has made a strong comeback and thumped the Australian in his first outing at the Flushing Meadows this season.

It has now been reported that the Spaniard will miss out on the rest of the event to attend to his wife. His wife, Maria Francisca Perello was earlier admitted to a hospital in Palma, Mallorca due to her pregnancy. Although it has been cleared by MARCA that both the baby and the mother are safe, Perello will have to stay in the hospital until the 34th week of pregnancy.

With the family already upset with the leak of the medical condition of the Spaniard's wife, this might come as a big blow for the veteran. If at all he leaves the event midway, all his hard work will be put aside.

Rafael Nadal at the US Open 2022:

The legendary tennis star won the title in 2019 and stepped onto the arena for the first time in three years. The Spaniard managed to clinch a win in the first match after toiling hard in the practice session.

He missed out on the Canadian Open and the Spanish team for the Davies Cup due to persistent injuries. If he decides to stay in the event, he might even go on to clinch the title for the fifth time this year having won it in 2010, 2013, 2017 and 2019 already. It is all up to the legend to take a call and balance it between his career and family.
