'One last miracle' - Fans on Twitter stunned as Roger Federer hits the ball through the nets on his retirement match

Roger Federer called it a time in tennis after playing for Team Europe teaming up with Rafael Nadal in the Laver Cup 2022. Albeit the Swiss star and his Spaniard pair lost the match, fans found no reason to celebrate the victory of Team World’s Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock. The opponents themselves had to restrict everything as a mark of respect to the legendary player.

However, Roger Federer has given the players and his fans numerous memories. The legendary player decided to give his fans a memory to remember even in his last match. For the unversed, in the first set, Roger Federer hit the ball somehow through the nets. 

Although the chair umpire gave a point initially, it was transferred to the opponents once the umpire found out that the shot was not legal. The moment will be cherished forever and fans will leave no stone unturned to recollect it throughout their lifetime. 

The 41-year-old has given the fans yet another moment to cherish just before retiring. Fans on Twitter said that the player is of such stature that he gave something stunning in the final match too. Commenting on his retirement after the match, Roger Federer said that it was a great moment for him to play with all the stars.

The Swiss star thanked his family and friends for supporting him throughout. Further, Roger Federer thanked his wife in specific for allowing him to carry on with the sport. The 41-year-old further said that it was great to play alongside great stars and signed off in style. 

“It feels great to be here. I enjoyed tying my shoes one more time. Everything was the last time. And funny enough, with all the matches and having the guys being here – fans, family, friends – I didn’t feel the stress so much, even though I did think I’d pop a calf, or block a back or something in the match. So I am so happy I made it through. The match was great. I couldn’t be happier. It’s been wonderful. And of course, playing with Rafa on the same team and having the guys – everybody here, all the legends – Rocket, Edberg, Stefan, thank you,” Roger Federer said in his retirement speech.

“I’ve done OK so far I feel. I’m at least able to talk. In my vision, I was never able to talk, so I’m doing way better. Everybody’s here tonight from my family, so it’s great. I’ve had so much fun over the last 13 years . Everybody’s here, the girls, the boys. My wife’s been so supportive. She could have stopped me a long, long time ago, but she didn’t. She kept me going and allowed me to play. It’s amazing. Thank you,” he said about his family.
