The 35-year-old senior tennis star Novak Djokovic has come up with an official withdrawal from Cincinnati Open commencing shortly. It is due to the fact that Djokovic is not fitting into the current vaccine mandate of the US. Earlier, he won the tournament two times. The last time he appeared in the tournament was in 2020 when he clinched the title.
The Serbian lad has also missed the recently-concluded Canadian open due to the same reason of the vaccine mandate, that time it was the government of Canada on the other side.
World’s number six player also had to miss Cincinnati Open and Canadian Open last year. But that time, it was the injury that didn’t let him play both the tournaments. Now, the strict covid-19 guidelines are making a very hard line for Djokovic.
USA ends many restrictions to let Novak Djokovic play in US Open in 2022
In a recent development, there is a bit of relief for the Wimbledon champion as the government of the United States of America has come up with some leniencies in their covid-19 guidelines. It might open the doors of the US Open for Djokovic.
A few days back, the 21 grand slam-winner made a clear statement publicly that he is never going to get vaccinated and is ready to pay a cost for this. Before this, he had to miss the Australian Open 2022 due to strict Covid Guidelines and a long legal battle against the Australian government.
As per the new amendments, the US govt. has come up with a statement, “It will not discriminate between vaccinated and unvaccinated people. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the US agency which is responsible for the health and safety of US residents, relaxed rules regarding social distancing and quarantine.”
CDC has ended many restrictions regarding covid-19 guidelines which might make it easy for Djokovic to appear in the US Open 2022. Earlier, the Serb requested the US government to relax their rules so that he can make way for one of the biggest tennis tournaments.
