Ace Indian tennis star Sania Mirza recently announced her retirement from professional Tennis. Sania said she is struggling to match the fitness required to sustain in the competitive environment and even might not be able to play the entire season. “I’ve decided that this will be my last season. I’m taking it week by week. Not sure if I can last the season, but I want to,” she told reporters.

“There’s a bunch reason for it. It’s not as simple as ‘okay I’m not going to play’. I do feel my recovery is taking longer, I do feel, considering my son is three years old, I’m putting him at risk b by travelling so much with him, that’s something I have to take into account,” Mirza had said.

However, it seems that Sania is regretting announcing her decision too soon as she has been flooded with retirement queries. Sania was participating in what could be her last Australian Open. Her campaign came to an end after she and her partner Rajeev Ram lost to the Australian duo of Jason Kubler and Jaimee Fourlis. “I made the announcement too soon. To be very honest. I’m kind of regretting it because that’s all I’m being asked about right now, ” Sania said to Sony Sports.

Sania further said that while she is playing, her focus is to give 100 per cent and win every game. “It’s not something that’s on my mind constantly. I enjoy playing tennis, you have known me for a long time, win or lose,” she said. “But I’m still in it 100 per cent for the rest of the year. And I don’t really want to think about what’s going to happen at the end of the year. I still want to win everything I play,” Mirza added.
