Emma Raducanu has had a horrible year, and it can’t get any worse for the defending US Open champion as she lost in the first round of the Canadian Open. Raducanu faced Camila Giorgi and lost 7-6(0), 6-2. This marks her 14th loss of the year and the fans went crazy on her.

She did give a strong opening to the match until the first tie-breaker. But shortly after that, Camila Giorgi took control of the match and won it eventually. This humiliating loss brought the Twitter community together and they all hoped that the hype surrounding Raducanu would come to an end soon.

The 19-year-old tennis star has been facing criticism for her frequent losses this year. The Toronto-born British tennis star is the first woman from Britain to win a Grand Slam at the US Open after Virginia Wade in 1977 Wimbledon. She reached a career-high ranking of number ten by the Women's Tennis Association in July 2022.

The young star turned pro in the year 2018 and holds the record for the fewest majors played before winning a title in the open era. The 19-year-old suffered a small leg injury in the month of February earlier this year and it forced her to withdraw from the Monterrey Open.

This was her maiden Canadian Open and she has been thrashed out of the tournament in the first round. This eventually upset a lot of people who wanted the best from her. Giorgi is the defending champion of the Canadian Open and will be facing Elise Mertens of Belgium in the second round.

The current British number one has failed to deliver yet again. And this would mean more criticism in the future. The young star will have to find a way to get back to her very best. It is quite evident from her past, that it will not be long until she makes a strong comeback.

Here’s how the Twitter community reacted after Emma Radicanu’s first-round exit in the Canadian Open:
