Virat Kohli produced a brave performance in the second innings of the Boxing Day Test against South Africa. Had he received support from the other end, the story would have been different. The former India captain scored a brilliant half-century, but at the same time, he witnessed his team falling like a pack of cards at the Supersport Park in Centurion.
India lost by an innings and 32 runs as South Africa completely dominated the series opener. Apart from Kohli's second innings 76 off 82 balls, KL Rahul's sensational first innings century and Jasprit Bumrah's impressive spell, the visitors had little to gain. The Men in Blue's dream of winning a Test series has been dashed, but they have another chance to level the series when the two meet at Newlands in Cape Town.
India have managed to draw a Test series only once in South Africa and Rohit Sharma and Co. will be aiming for a repeat when the second Test begins on January 3. Meanwhile, Kohli will be hoping to help his team register a historic achievement and a great start to the new year.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, December 31, a fan took to his X handle to share a video of the ace Indian cricketer's off-field activities in the rainbow nation. In the 9-second clip, Kohli can be seen giving an autograph on an Indian jersey to a fan in South Africa.

Kohli proved again that he is a champion: Venkatesh Prasad
Former India cricketer Venkatesh Prasad recently heaped praise on Kohli during a Q&A session on the X platform. The right-arm pacer described the 35-year-old as a champion and stated that 2023 was his year.
"He has proved again that he is a champion and the best batsman of this generation, been a phenomenal year for him. Would rate this as his best year, especially since it had come after a couple of difficult years for him. That hunger and zeal was refreshing and a sign of the true champion that Virat is," Prasad said.
