Many international cricket players adhere to superstitions, and it often proves effective for them. Such a moment occurred on Day 2 of the initial Test between South Africa and India when Virat Kohli was observed changing the bails, aiming to bring good luck to his team. Indian bowlers experienced a wicketless phase as Dean Elgar and Tony de Zorzi built a second-wicket partnership of 93 runs. However, Kohli's strategic moves on the field and Jasprit Bumrah's delivery eventually broke the partnership.

The South African batter, Zorzi who was then batting on 28 faced a delivery from Bumrah that exhibited significant seam movement away from the left-handed batter after pitching on the off-stump. The ball resulted in a healthy outside edge off the bat, comfortably caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal at third slip.

A mere two balls before the wicket, the camera captured Virat Kohli positioned near the stumps at the non-striker's end. The star India batter was observed altering the bails' orientation, hoping for a change in luck to favour India. Following this event after the 29th over, South Africa found themselves in a challenging situation at 104 for 2 as Bumrah dismissed Zorzi off the last ball.

Continuing his impact, Bumrah swiftly claimed another wicket. He induced an inside edge from Keegan Petersen (2) with a short delivery outside off-stump, disturbing the stumps in the process.

Dean Elgar scores his 14th Test century

The former South African skipper yet again proved his mettle against the Indian bowling lineup. Playing his last Test series, Elgar took the attack to the Indian bowling right from the onset. The star South African player slammed his 14th Test century which included 19 boundaries. He reached his century in just 140 deliveries that too in the second session of the game. This innings from the South African great is special because it came against a good bowling lineup and on a tricky surface.

Since his debut in 2012, Elgar has been a cornerstone for South Africa, particularly in Test cricket. Among the eight South African batter to surpass 5,000 runs in Test cricket, the veteran has also served as the captain in 17 Tests.
