Another Boxing Day Test match, another brilliant batting performance from Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul. The right-handed batter stood firm in challenging conditions for Indian batters on an overcast day at SuperSport Park in Centurion. This century from Rahul will certainly go down as one of the best innings from any visiting team batter. This is the eighth Test century from the star right-hand batter. Rahul also became the first batter in history to score two centuries at Centurion ground.
The 31-year-old batter came into bat when India were struggling at 92/4. He then combined with Virat Kohli (38) and tried to build a partnership. But it was Kagiso Rabada who took the wicket off Kohli. Soon, Ravichandran Ashwin (8) too followed back to the hut and India were reeling at 121/6. Moreover, it was then the star all-rounder Shardul Thakur who combined with Rahul and tried to steady the Indian innings.
Shardul took some mighty blows on his body but hung in there and played a brilliant innings of 24 runs. He along with Rahul stitched a much-needed partnership of 43 runs. Once, Shardul was dismissed Rahul took the responsibility of scoring the bulk of the runs. In the process, he even reached his century.
KL Rahul became the second Indian wicketkeeper to score a century
KL Rahul scored a century in just 133 balls. Arguably it can be considered as his best Test century for India, especially on the challenging Centurion pitch. The pitch that troubled most Indian batters in the Boxing Day Test. Finally, it was Nandre Burger who dismissed him after his century.
With a wicket Team India were eventually bowled out for 245. KL Rahul's remarkable performance on Days 1 and 2 deserves commendation. He even marked the highest Test score by an Indian wicketkeeper-batter in South Africa. Earlier this record was held by another flamboyant Indian wicketkeeper, Rishabh Pant. It was in the 2022 tour, that Pant scored 100 runs and became the first wicketkeeper batter to do so on South African soil.
Let's see how Twitter has reacted to this innings;

KL Rahul was playing on 5 runs when Virat Kohli was out. After that, the innings left with the lower middle order and tail batsmen is really praiseworthy. In my view, this has been the best innings played by KL Rahul in his career.
