In the 20th match of the ongoing SA20 2024, the defending champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape and MI Cape Town locked horns. Ahead of the game, both teams were looking for a win with playoffs approaching. Meanwhile, in this game, the home team, the Sunrisers won the toss and elected to bat first. They had a poor start as Jordan Hermann lost his wicket early.Β

Dawid Malan and Tom Abell put together 54 runs for the second wicket. The England international, Malan struggled on his way to 22-ball 18. After his wicket, skipper Aiden Markram and Abell quickened up the run rate and added 63 runs in just 5.5 overs. Both batters scored a fifty each. Apart from them, Tristan Stubbs played a cameo and helped the team reach 175/6.

For the Blue Brigade, uncapped Sri Lanka player Nuwan Thushara and South Africa international Kagiso Rabada took two wickets each. On the other hand, former West Indies skipper Keiron PollardΒ and Thomas Kaber took one each.Β

In reply, the visitors had a poor start as their in-form openers, Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickleton lost their wickets early inside the powerplay. The latter got starts and apart from him, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Pollard, and Dewald Brewis got starts but failed to take the team over the line. Despite the lack of big partnerships and big individual scores, the team came close but lost the game by 4 runs.
