Fans were left disappointed after the opening match of SA20 2024 was abandoned due to rain without a ball being bowled. However, they were treated to a run-fest in the second match between MI Cape Town (MICT) and Durban Super Giants (DSG), despite rain making an appearance in the end. In a high-scoring thriller at Kingsmead, Durban, a Heinrich Klaasen masterclass resulted in Super Giants winning by 11 runs via DLS method.

After losing the toss and inserted into bat, Cape Town managed to post a massive score of 207-5 in 20 overs. They were off to a flier with Ryan Rickelton going berserk at one end. The wicketkeeper batter stitched an 82-run partnership with Rassie van der Dussen for the first wicket. Super Giants managed to get a breakthrough with two quick wickets, but Rickelton was doing his job beautifully.

He looked on course for a maiden century in the second edition but fell short of 13 runs while trying to play an expansive shot. Apart from Rickelton, none of the other batters could stay at the crease for a while. However, some killer blows from Liam Livingstone (25 off 20 balls) and skipper Kieron Pollard (31* off 14) towards the end pushed their score beyond 200. Barring Keemo Paul's 2/31, there were no key takeaways for DSG's bowling department.

Chasing a massive total of 208, Super Giants got off to a worst possible start as they lost two wickets early on. Opener Quinton de Kock and Wiaan Mulder were dismissed cheaply within the first three overs. Keemo Paul and Matthew Breetzke tried to rebuild the innings, but the former was sent packing right after the powerplay and they were reduced to 52/3.

However, with Heinrich Klaasen teaming up with Breetzke, Super Giants slowly gained the upper hand. The opening batter was dismissed for 39 in the 11th over, followed by Nicholas Pooran after a couple of overs. But with Klaasen out there, MICT were still in the game. The South African wicketkeeper batter scored a blazing 35-ball 85 before getting dismissed in the 16th over. He made sure his team was safe and well ahead of the par score before rain interrupted play.
