Pakistan Super League is set to start from Saturday and some of the well-recognized will be taking part. The next few weeks is set to witness amazing action as Lahore Qalandars look to retain their title.
Despite creating a huge interest PSL is yet to catch up with the popularity of the IPL. The Indian T20 league will be starting in just over a month. Mumbai Indians are one of the most successful IPL sides with five titles to their name.
But did you know five Mumbai Indians players also played the PSL? In this article, we cast a closer look at the top five Mumbai Indians players who played in the PSL.
Dwayne Smith – West Indies
Former West Indian powerhouse Dwayne Smith first played in the IPL in 2008 for the Mumbai Indians. This was followed by his move to Deccan Charges a year later as he was part of the title-winning squad. In 2012 Smith re-joined Mumbai Indians won the title with them the following year. In the PSL Dwayne Smith has played for three teams. Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi, and Quetta Gladiators.
Dwayne Bravo – West Indies
The former skipper of the West Indian side played for Mumbai Indians in the first three seasons. The dynamic all-rounder then moved down south to play for the Chennai Super Kings and became a cult hero. When he wasn’t playing in the IPL, Dwayne Bravo played for Quetta Gladiators and Lahore Qalandars in the PSL. The former West Indian great has been part of many championship-winning sides during his glorious career.
Luke Ronchi – Australia/New Zealand
It was in the first innings of the IPL that Mumbai Indians introduced to the world the explosive talents of Luke Ronchi. Then an Australian national, the destructive batter didn’t fire for the Mumbai side. Sadly that was the only time he played in the IPL as he wasn’t picked thereafter. Luke Ronchi’s time with Islamabad United was more successful as he played 31 matches for the PSL side.
Kieron Pollard – West Indies
When the name Mumbai Indians is mentioned, Kieron Pollard and his immense contributions come to mind. Ever since his debut in 2010, the burly all-rounder from Trinidad and Tobago has been a one-club man. With the Mumbai Indians, Pollard has won five IPL titles and two Champions League trophies. In the PSL the West Indian has enjoyed more success. Kieron Pollard has represented Karachi Kings, Peshawar Zalmi, and Multan Sultans during his stint in the league.
Martin Guptill – New Zealand
Former Kiwi opener Martin Guptill has an enviable record in the T20 format for his national side. The former New Zealand opener played just 3 games for Mumbai Indians in 2016 as a replacement player. In the PSL, Martin Guptill has been part of the Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators dugout with much better success.
