India lost the wicket of its captain early today in the match against Sri Lanka in Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. Rohit Sharma disappointed the Indian fans by getting out early on his home ground. The experienced batter received a peach of a delivery from Sri Lanka's Dilshan Madushanka, which was so good and seemed unplayable.

Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis won the toss and elected to bowl first in Mumbai. Considering the dew factor and some early movement of the deck early in the innings, Mendis asked India to bat first. In walked Rohit and Shubman Gill to bat. Madushanka and Chameera operated with the new ball for Sri Lanka. Madushanka had the new cherry.

In the first ball of the match, Rohit got a loosener from the left-arm pacer. Madushanka bowled on the pads of the batter and got punished. Madushanka got the outswinger going, but his length was wrong. Rohut just nudged it towards the fine leg region and fetched four runs. Soon, the Indian fans were going to experience something they did not anticipate.

Rohit then received a beautiful delivery in the second ball of the over. Madushanka slightly shortened his length and bowled on a perfectly good length. Rohit did not expect the ball to come back. But it did. As Rohit tried to hit the ball towards the off side, he realized that the ball was not ideal to be hit. He was a bit too late to recognize the incoming delivery.

In the process, Rohit lost the plot completely, as the ball hit the top of the off stump to provide the first breakthrough for Sri Lanka. The off stump went flying for the delight of the bowler. The Sri Lankan team celebrated the dismissal, as they knew how dangerous Rohit Sharma has been in the tournament. The audience in the stadium was shell-shocked, as they did not expect Rohit to get dismissed early.
