Team India is following a unique tradition in the ODI World Cup 2023, in an effort to encourage their players to give their best on the field. India's fielding coach T Dilip came up with an idea to award a medal to the best fielder in each match. India have played five matches in the tournament so far and different fielders have won the award all five times.
This not only helps the players to give their maximum effort while fielding but also creates a strong bond between them and the staff in the camp. Moreover, the coach comes up with different ways to reveal the award winner, which makes the players excited. It was Shreyas Iyer who won the best fielder award in the match against New Zealand in Dharamsala on Sunday.
Dilip heaped praise on Mohammed Siraj and Virat Kohli for their outstanding efforts. But Iyer, who was brilliant from the start and took a spectacular catch to dismiss Devon Conway, won the award. However, this time the winner was disclosed via spider-cam and the players could not contain their excitement.

India's unbeaten run in World Cup 2023 continues
India climbed to the top of the points table with a thrilling four-wicket win over New Zealand on Sunday. The Men in Blue are currently the only unbeaten team in the tournament. Mohammad Shami, who took five wickets in his first match of the 2023 World Cup, and Virat Kohli, who scored a magnificent 95 runs, led India to their fifth win.
The Black Caps were on top when Daryl Mitchell (130) and Rachin Ravindra (75) stitched a mammoth partnership. However, the Indian bowlers were brilliant in the end as they restricted New Zealand to 275./10 from 178/2. Speaking after the match, captain Rohit Sharma praised the performance of his bowlers.
"At one stage, we were looking at 300-plus, the way Mitch [Mitchell] and Rachin [Ravindra] batted. New Zealand put up a big partnership there. The wicket was easy to bat on, dew came in as well. But I've got to give credit to the bowlers in the back end to pull things back nicely. And to restrict them to 270-odd was a great effort," he said.
