Rohit Sharma provided a great start and the team is in front against New Zealand
At the toss, the India skipper said that the dew might come into play in the second innings. This was the reason he decided to bowl first after winning the toss. On the other hand, the Blackcaps skipper was also looking to do the same.
"No particular reason. In training yesterday we thought dew came in early. Good pitch, shouldn't change too much," Sharma said.
"We would've bowled first as well due to the dew," New Zealand skipper Tom Latham said.
Meanwhile, the two-time finalists had a poor start as they lost their openers, Devon Conway and Will Young to Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami respectively for 19 runs. Rachin Ravindra would have gotten out if not for his namesake, Ravindra Jadeja dropping a dolly at the backward point when the score was 40/2. The former and Daryl Mitchell made them pay with a partnership of 159 runs for the third wicket.
While the left-hander, Rachin scored 75, Mitchell got 130 before becoming the fifth wicket of Shami. Meanwhile, after the partnership was broken, the team lost their last seven wickets for 95 runs with Shami taking another five-wicket haul. In reply, thanks to Sharma (46), Shubman Gill (26), and Shreyas Iyer (33), the team has reached 144/3 in 25.4 overs, needing 130 runs in 24.2 overs.
