In the 2023 World Cup, England, the defending champions, suffered an 8-wicket loss to Sri Lanka, marking their fourth defeat in five matches. They batted first but managed a meager 156 runs, their lowest World Cup total since 2003. Sri Lanka comfortably reached 160-2, with Pathum Nissanka (77*) and Sadeera Samarawickrama (65*) leading the charge. In contrast, Australia recovered from a shaky start, winning three matches and currently holding the fourth position in the standings. They face New Zealand in a crucial match, aiming to maintain their momentum in the tournament. England's hopes of progressing are in jeopardy.
While Australia's upcoming match is undoubtedly significant in the context of the tournament, a journalist couldn't resist inquiring about Pat Cummins' thoughts on England's dramatic defeat in the 2023 World Cup. Although the Australian captain expressed sadness over England's loss on Thursday, he couldn't help but wear a broad smile, subtly hinting at the fierce competitive rivalry that exists between these cricketing powerhouses.

England and Australia will be facing each other on November 4
"Our group's big on talking about the style that we want to play, and I think in the first two games not only did we not win, but I think we didn't really nail the style that we wanted to play. I think in the last few games, you've seen us be a bit more aggressive - batting and bowling. Bowling - everyone's been really open-minded, tried different things; trying bounces, different fields, one over spells, and it's just been a real buy-in from the whole team, and yeah, it's been fantastic last few games,” Cummins told reporters in the press conference.
