Virat Kohli scored his 49th ODI hundred against South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Batting first on a tricky wicket in Kolkata, Virat scored a very good hundred. despite struggling towards the end, Kohli got to the landmark to a huge roar from the crowd. History was created as Virat became only the second batter in the history of the format to score 49 hundreds.
The former Indian cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar, was the only other batter to have reached the milestone before Virat. The Indian number 3 equaled his former teammate and his idol after reaching to the milestone. The atmosphere in the stadium was visibly electrifying. The experts, former cricketers, and commentators praised the knock of the Indian batter and appreciated him for achieving the milestone.
India steamrolled through the South African batting lineup in the second innings. The Indian bowlers restricted the proteas to a total of just 83 runs and won the match by a huge margin of 243 runs. The win ensured the top spot of the points table for India. On the other hand, South Africa need not worry much, as they have qualified for the semifinal.
Big match for Sri Lanka against Bangladesh in Delhi
Speaking about qualifiactions, there are other teams in the tournament who are struggling for a couple of spots in the knockout stage of the tournament. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are two such teams, who will be taking on each other in Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi on the 6th of November. It is a big match for Sri Lanka, which can decide their future in the tournament.
A win would give them a chance to stay alive in the tournament. On the other end, a loss would mean the end of road for them. Bangladesh is already out of the tournament. Before the match, Mendis had arrived in the press conference, where he was asked about Virat's hundred against South Africa. A reporter asked him if he would congratulate Virat for his hundred, Kusal replied saying "Why would I congratulate him?" and had a weird smile.
