Afghanistan on Friday registered their third consecutive win and fourth overall in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side defeated the Netherlands by 7 wickets at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. They have now moved up to fifth in the points table and are in contention for a semi-final spot.
Coming into the World Cup with the tag of 'underdogs', Afghanistan have stunned the cricketing world with their sensational performances so far in the tournament. Before this edition, they had only one win in World Cup history. But with the latest win against the Netherlands, they have already registered four wins this time around.
After their impressive win that helped them to dethrone Pakistan in the points table, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan took to social media to share his joy. The cricketer-turned-commentator celebrated the victory with another dance performance. Pathan had celebrated in a similar manner with spinner Rashid Khan after Afghanistan's win against Pakistan. He continued the trend, this time from the studio.

The 2007 T20 World Cup winner posted a picture of herself in a dance outfit along with a congratulatory message for the Asian team. "The Afghan team's performance in this World Cup has shifted the conversation from their bowling to their remarkable batting. Kudos to them for their consistent displays," Pathan wrote.

Talking about the match, Afghan bowlers restricted the Netherlands to 179 in 46.3 overs after being asked to bowl first. Mohammad Nabi and Noor Ahmad were the pick of the bowlers as the two spinners collectively grabbed five wickets in the process. Sybrand Engelbrecht, who scored 58 off 86, was the top scorer.
In reply, Afghanistan chased down the target comfortably in 31. 3 overs. They lost their openers cheaply, but Rahmat Shah and captain Hashmatullah Shahidi held their nerves to get over the line. Afghanistan's next games are against Australia and South Africa.
