During the ODI World Cup match against the Netherlands in New Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium, Australia's Glenn Maxwell achieved something extraordinary. He scored the fastest hundred in ODI World Cup history, taking just 40 balls to reach this milestone. This makes him the fourth-fastest century scorer in ODI cricket.

Maxwell's innings was explosive and featured powerful shots and precision. He hit nine boundaries and eight massive sixes during his time at the crease, which lasted for 44 balls. In the end, he was dismissed by Logan van Beek in the final over after scoring a brilliant 106 runs.

However, the highlight of his innings was the outrageous reverse sweeps that have translated into his signature shot. On the third delivery of the 46th over, Glenn Maxwell executed a reverse sweep against a full delivery from Paul van Meekeren, sending the ball racing for a one-bounce four.

Australia posted a mammoth total of 400 runs before the Netherlands

In the following over, the Australian dynamo attempted the same shot against Bas de Leede, this time achieving a maximum, prompting Shane Watson to exclaim "Oh, that's ridiculous" on the live broadcast. He followed this up with yet another switch hit in the same over, resulting in another six.

To put it in perspective, the previous record for the fastest century in an ODI World Cup was held by South Africa's Aiden Markram, who took 49 balls to score a century against Sri Lanka at the same venue. Maxwell's exceptional performance has now set a new standard for speed and skill in ODI World Cup cricket history.

In the earlier stages of the match, the trio of David Warner (104), Steve Smith (71), and Marnus Labuschagne (62) displayed outstanding batting performances, laying the foundation for a substantial total. Thanks to their combined efforts, Australia amassed an enormous score of 399/8 on the scoreboard. The Dutch have not gone on to a fast start, they have already lost six wickets for 85 runs in 18 overs.
