Virat Kohli and the other Indian fielders were exceptional against Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 match. India got a brilliant start to their World Cup campaign with a win against a strong team like Australia. India outperformed Australia in all facets of the game and clinched a crucial win. The win was a huge morale boost for the Indian team.
It was visible in the way India celebrated the win against Australia in the dressing room. The tone was set early on to India by the bowlers, who were exceptional. The new ball duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj was deadly and caused trouble to the Australian batters. In the process, Bumrah also got rid of Mitchell Marsh in the Powerplay overs.
The wicket of Marsh was a product of both Bumrah and Virat. While Bumrah set Marsh beautifully for the ball, by bowling away going deliveries before and then bringing the ball only slightly in to induce the outside edge of Marsh's willow, it was Virat who claimed a sensational catch in the first slip. It was a fantastic grab from the Indian fielder.
Virat Kohli presented with the medal by Indian coach Rahul Dravid
For the rest of the match, the Indian fielders were brilliant. By taking the catch, Virat became the Indian fielder with the most catches in the ODI World Cup, a record previously held by Anil Kumble. The likes of Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, and all the other fielders were exceptional in the field and stopped a lot of runs. Fielding was one of the important aspects of the Indian win.
Following India's win in the match, the dressing room was vibrant. After the match, the Indian players were seen celebrating the win. The Indian coach Rahul Dravid announced a medal for the best fielder of the match. By giving honourable mentions to Kishan and Iyer, Dravid handed the medal to Virat. The star cricketer celebrated the win and his fielding by wearing the medal and made the dressing room vibrant.
