In the 23rd match of the ongoing 2023 ODI World Cup, South Africa faced off against Bangladesh at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, October 24. However, there was an unexpected twist for Proteas fans as their regular captain, Temba Bavuma, was missing from the lineup once again. The South African team is coming out from a well-deserved victory against the defending champions on the same ground.
Bavuma had previously missed South Africa's match against England due to gastric illness, and regrettably, he was not leading the team against Bangladesh in Mumbai. It has been confirmed that Bavuma has not fully recovered from the gastric illness he experienced before the England game, and as a precautionary measure, he was rested for the match.
It's worth highlighting that in their previous match against England, South Africa pulled off a remarkable win even without Bavuma's leadership. With the game against Bangladesh on the horizon, it will be intriguing to observe how the team performs once more in the absence of their regular captain. It is also to be noted that the skipper Bavuma has been in some form as he averaged more than 60 in 2023.

I think Reeza Hendricks is far better than Temba Bavuma

Reeza Hendricks has been performing in ODI format from quite a while now but SA do not give him chances as Bavuma is captain. Good to see merit being first priority of SA team. 400 is ready as Bavuma is not playing

SA should make runs around 350+

Lungi Ngidi also misses out due to injury
In addition to Bavuma's absence, South Africa also decided to rest their star fast bowler, Lungi Ngidi, for the game against Shakib Al Hasan's Bangladesh. Aiden Markram, the stand-in captain, revealed at the toss that Lizaad Williams would be making his World Cup debut in place of the rested Lungi Ngidi. Ngidi's absence in this match was attributed to a mild knee issue he has been dealing with.
With these changes, South Africa retained the rest of the lineup which contributed to their impressive win over England. In that match, South Africa scored 399 runs in the first innings and bowled out England for 170, securing a convincing 229-run victory.
