India has suffered a big blow at the start of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. Star batter Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the first two games due to dengue. However, the latest news report suggests that Gill might also miss the high-voltage game against Pakistan on October 14. As per the news reports, Gill is currently under medical observation in Chennai as he has been hospitalized.

According to sources, Gill was hospitalised on Monday after his platelet count went down drastically, which forced team management to rush him to the hospital. It's worth noting that the team travelled to Delhi for the Afghanistan match without him. However, some media reports suggest that Gill might take at least one more week to recover and be match-ready. In that case, he is set to miss the upcoming game against Pakistan.

It's worth noting that Gill has an amazing record at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. He has been phenomenal throughout the ongoing year and is on the verge of breaking some amazing batting records. However, his health is not allowing him to participate in the prestigious tournament. Indian team management fielded wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan in place of him in the first game against Afghanistan, who failed to even score a single run.

Is team management looking for Gill's replacement?

In another news report, Indian Express revealed that the Indian team management and selectors are set to hold a meeting in Delhi. Team management might make a request for Gill's backup if he fails to make an in-time recovery. However, it's unlikely that the team will leave him from the squad as it's a two-month-long tournament.

Meanwhile, it's reported that Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been kept on hold if the team requires one of them to end up in the squad. However, India is set to face Afghanistan at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on October 11, before a marquee clash against Pakistan on October 14 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
