Bangladesh are eliminated from the 2023 ODI World Cup and Sri Lanka are just one blow away from booking their return ticket. Both the Asian teams entered the tournament with the aim of making a positive impact but failed miserably. The Tigers are currently placed 9th in the points table after winning just one of their seven games. On the other hand, the Lankan Lions are hanging on by a thread at the 7th position with two wins.
Considering the points table scenario, the upcoming match between them is unlikely to have any impact on the tournament, so both will aim to end their campaign on a high note. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are scheduled to meet in Match 38 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday, November 6.
What is the unexpected threat?
There are reports that the match may be abandoned due to an unexpected threat in Delhi. Usually, rain spoils the game, but this time rising air pollution threatens the game. Air pollution in and around Delhi is increasing and considering the Air Quality Index (300 to 500), it is dangerous even to breathe.
The authorities warned that the level of pollution was so high that it could cause serious health problems for the players during the match. Moreover, adding to the pollution, smog has also covered the skies of the capital city. Playing white ball cricket in such a situation is a problem as it can cause visibility issues. The smog on the match day can be quite heavy and take a long time to clear. Hence, the start of the match is likely to be delayed.
This is not a new phenomenon in Delhi, where hazardous air pollution is causing problems for its residents. As a result, respiratory problems are more common among people in the historic state.
Although BAN vs SL is not going to attract much attention, it will be bad news for cricket fans. If the match gets abandoned, both teams will receive one point. This also means that Sri Lanka will be officially eliminated from the tournament.
