Pakistan bowling coach Morne Morkel has resigned from his post following their disappointing performance in the ODI World Cup 2023. In a statement on Monday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced Morkel's decision to part ways and would announce a replacement "in due course". However, the board did not specify the reason for his exit.
The former South Africa pacer joined the Pakistan senior men's team on a six-month contract in June this year. His first assignment was the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Morkel's expertise was expected to make a major impact in Pakistan's World Cup campaign. But sadly, their bowling performance was a significant factor contributing to their early departure from the tournament.
The Men in Green failed to reach the semi-finals as they finished fifth in the points table. They started the campaign with consecutive wins but later suffered a string of defeats. Even Afghanistan handed them a massive upset as they recorded their maiden ODI win against Babar Azam's side.
