South Africa cruised to a massive 229-run win over defending champions England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, October 21. It was England's biggest ODI defeat (in terms of run margin) and they slipped to second last in the points table. On the other hand, apart from the upset against the Netherlands, the Proteas have recorded impressive wins so far and remain one of the main contenders to win the title.

Heinrich Klaasen was the wrecker-in-chief in handing England an embarrassing defeat. The right-hander unleashed his power-hitting prowess to take the game away from England after the first innings. His gritty knock of 109 off 67 deliveries, including 12 fours and 4 sixes, propelled South Africa to 399/7. Klaasen reached the triple-digit score with a six and a four off consecutive deliveries from pacer Mark Wood.

A pumped-up Klaasen did not hesitate to celebrate one of the finest World Cup knocks. The right-hander roared straight on the face of wood and the bowler seemed unimpressed with his reaction. However, Klaasen realised the celebration had gone a little too far and he apologised to the English seamer straight away.

“I didn’t say anything to him. I did go and apologise immediately and after the game. He did hit me twice on the foot, which is hurting quite a bit, it’s just pure emotion. And yeah, once again, I’m sorry for him and to the English boys but it’s pure emotion that just came out and sometimes it’s difficult to control. But I did apologize straight away and spoke to him after the game and hopefully from my side everything is sorted,” said Klaasen after the match.

He apologised straight away so there’s no ill feelings: Buttler

Speaking after England collapsed for 170 in 22 overs, captain Jos Buttler said Klaasen did not have to celebrate in Wood's face, but credited the batter for apologising immediately.

“I think he was obviously emotional to score 100. I don’t think he needed to celebrate in Mark Wood’s face and credit to him, he recognised that a couple of seconds after and he apologised. They played a great knock and I think he apologised straight away so there’s no ill feelings there," Buttler said.
