In the second semi-final of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, South Africa faces Australia at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. After winning the toss, South African skipper Temba Bavuma opted to bat first. His decision didn't go well with the team, as the Proteas posted 212/10 in 49.3 overs. Star batter David Miller shined with the bat as he scored a magnificent century.
While other players were struggling to face the mighty Aussies, Miller held one end and scored 101 runs off 116 balls with the help of eight fours and five sixes. He struck a 95-run partnership with Heinrich Klaasen for the fifth wicket. Klassen, in his innings, scored 47 runs off 48 balls with the help of four boundaries and two sixes. After his departure, Miller, along with Gerald Coetzee, added 53 runs for the seventh wicket.
Coetzee, in his inning, scored 19 runs off 39 balls with the help of two boundaries. Earlier, the pace duo of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazelwood broke cranage into the South African batting lineup. Starc dismissed Skipper Temba Bavuma for a four-ball duck in the very first over. While Hazelwood dismissed rusty Quinton de Kock for a mere 4 runs, They continued their dominance as they dismissed Aiden Markram and Rassie Van der Dussen too.
Can South Africa avenge the 1999 World Cup?
As Australia needs 213 runs to beat South Africa, a great coincidence comes into play. It's worth noting that in the 1999 World Cup semifinal, Australia faced South Africa in Birmingham. After batting first, Australia posted 213/10 in 49.2 overs. Michael Bevan and Steve Waugh were two-star batters. In response, South Africa also scored 213/10 in 49.4 overs and failed to qualify for the finals.
In today's game, the Temba Bavuma-led team has an opportunity to avenge the 1999 World Cup defeat. The team will need to take wickets and create pressure on the Australian batting line-up to meet India in the finals of the ongoing tournament. The final will take place at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19 in the presence of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

No support from other end, had someone stayed with him a bit longer in middle overs then he could've easily took SA close to 250.

What an incredible knock by Miller against Australia - under all sorts of pressure, Miller rises and takes South Africa to a reasonable total. pic.twitter.com/Yl8JoH2CuZ
