The defending champions had a decent start with 48 runs in seven overs. Aryan Dutt took the wicket of Jonny Bairstow (15), who has been short of runs in the tournament. At this stage, the likes of former Test skipper Joe Root and Dawid Malan put together 85 runs for the second wicket. The former got out weirdly as he tried to play a reverse scoop but pulled out.

Soon after, Malan (87) got run out as he had a confusion with the current Test skipper Ben Stokes. After this wicket, the team was reduced from 139/2 to 192/6 with white-ball skipper Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, and Harry Brook not getting many runs. At this stage, the likes of Stokes (108) and Chris Woakes (51) added 129 runs for the seventh wicket. They ended up getting 339/9.

In reply, the Dutch were never in the chase given the kind of stiff target to chase. Max O'Dowd (5) was removed by Woakes in the fifth over. After this, the team lacked big partnerships apart from a 59-run partnership between skipper Scott Edwards and Teja Nidamanuru and 54 runs between Wesley Barresi and Sybrand Englebrecht.

With Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid taking three wickets each and David Willey bagging two and Woakes taking one, they bowled out their European rivals for 179, winning the match by 160 runs.
