Bengal Cricket Association is set to distribute 70000 masks of Virat Kohli for the match between India and South Africa in the ODI World Cup 2023. The match between arguably the two best teams in the tournament till now, will happen on the 5th of November. It coincides with Virat's 35th birthday. Hence, the Bengal Cricket Association has decided to celebrate Virat's birthday grandly.
Headed by Snehasish Ganguly, the brother of Sourav Ganguly, Eden Gardens is set to distribute 70000 masks of Virat in the stadium before the match. The reports suggest that Virat will have a cake-cutting ceremony and will be presented with a memento before the start of the match. If the International Cricket Board approves it, the event is set to make the Indian fans happy.
Interestingly, Eden Gardens had conducted a similar mega event for Sachin Tendulkar's 199th Test match. In 2013, Sachin played against the West Indies in Eden Gardens. During the match, there was a huge celebration for Sachin. The celebration of Virat is likely to be grand and a full attendance is expected for the match between India and South Africa.
'We want to make the day special for Virat' - Snehasish Ganguly
Snehasish spoke about the same and said that they are waiting to get approval from the international cricket board. "We hope to get an approval from the council on this. We want to make the day special for Virat. We want every fan in the stadium wearing Kohli's masks as he walks in. We plan to distribute about 70,000 masks on that day," said Snehasish.
Snehasish further added that they have planned for fireworks during the mid-innings for Virat and the crowd. Sneasish said that the whole of Kolkata loves Virat and the gesture is on behalf of all of them. Virat has been in great form in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. The Indian star batter scored fifty against Australia, Afghanistan, and New Zealand. Against Bangladesh, Kohli scored his 48th ODI hundred. The 34-year-old is currently the sixth-highest run-scorer in the tournament.
