In a must-win game against The Netherlands, the defending champions Englandโ€™s skipper Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to bat first. The Three Lions had introduced a couple of alterations to their lineup, with Harry Brook taking the place of Liam Livingstone, and Gus Atkinson substituting for Mark Wood. Meanwhile, The Netherlands had also made a change, with Teja Nidamanuru stepping in for Saqib Zulfiqar.

Despite having a formidable start the England team suffered quick blows in the middle overs which saw them face a scare of settling down to a total of 250 runs which once easily looked above 300 runs. But then came the heroics from the star English batter Ben Stokes who had a below-par run in the tournament so far. At one stage the English team were struggling at 192/6, but then it was courtesy of Stokes range hitting which saw England post a total of 339 runs.

The talismanic England opener seemed to have found his mojo as he smoked every Dutch bowler all around the park and displayed why he is rated so highly in international cricket. Stokes played a brilliant innings of 108 runs off just 84 deliveries including six boundaries and six maximums. He was also well supported by Chris Woakes (51) and Dawid Malan (87).

Let us look at how Twitter has reacted to this brilliant innings from a legendary all-rounder;

Do or Die game for England if they want to qualify for Champions Trophy 2025

In the context of the World Cup 2023, the top seven teams by the end of the group stage will secure direct qualification for the 2025 Champions Trophy, with Pakistan already granted a direct entry as the host nation. As Pakistan is poised to finish within the top seven, the team that claims the eighth position will also qualify for the Champions Trophy. Both England and the Netherlands are competing for this crucial eighth spot.

ย The result of their upcoming match carries significant implications for both teams, as it holds the key to securing a place in the ICC Champions Trophy. Only the top eight teams at the conclusion of the World Cup will be eligible to participate in the 2025 50-over event. While England is determined to improve their performance to secure the wins necessary for this objective, a victory for the Netherlands in this encounter would put them in a strong position to secure their spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
