Pakistan has not had a good time in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. The former world champions lost to Afghanistan earlier this tournament and saw themselves losing 4 games in a row, which really affected their campaign. Against South Africa, Pakistan lost a close game, which hurt the confidence of their players. It received huge criticism from the fans and former cricketers.

Babar Azam, the star batter and captain of the team, was the target of the lot. So far in the tournament, Babar has not been able to fire with the bat as well as he would have liked. As a captain, Babar made some decisions which were questioned by a lot. Apart from the on-field disappointments, Pakistan had to endure the controversies behind the scenes. The chief selector of the Pakistani board stepped down. 

The chairman of Pakistan's cricket board shared the WhatsApp conversation with Babar on Live TV. Since then, Pakistan has not lost a match. Against Bangladesh, the 1992 champions won by 7 wickets. Against New Zealand, the Asian side won the match by 21 runs via the DLS method, despite conceding 401 runs with the ball. Fakhar Zaman played a key role in both the wins of Pakistan.

Speaking about Pakistan's upcoming match against England, Babar felt good. The experienced batter said that the team is ready for the big challenge. It is a must-win game for Pakistan to progress to the semifinal stage of the tournament. Pakistan must beat England by a huge margin. In the press conference, Babar was asked about the future of his captaincy. 

"About the captaincy, as I said, once we go back to Pakistan or after this match, we will see what happens. But right now, I am not focusing on this; my focus is on the next match," said Babar. The star cricketer said that his focus is on the match against England, to try and win it. Babar revealed that he would take a decision on his captaincy after returning to Pakistan from the ODI World Cup 2023.
