In the 18th game of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, AustraliaΒ and Pakistan locked horns in Bengaluru. Ahead of the game, the Green Brigade was coming off a massive loss against arch-rivals, India. On the other hand, the Kangaroos had beaten Sri Lanka by a big margin. Meanwhile, the 1992 winners won the toss and elected to bowl first.

The decision could have proven right if Usama Mir held on the David Warner when the latter was batting on 10. This proved to be a massive letdown as Warner and Mitchell Marsh put together 259 runs in just 33.5 overs. Both players scored a hundred each to give their side a dream start. However, after this partnership was broken, the other batters couldn't do much.

From 259/0, the team was rather restricted to 367/9 at the end of the first innings. Warner (163) scored his third ODI World Cup 150 and missed out on his maiden ODI double hundred. For Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi took a five-wicket haul while Haris Rauf took three wickets to help the team make a comeback.

In reply, the Asian side had a great start with Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq putting together 134 runs for the first wicket. Both openers, after getting their individual fifties were removed by Marcus Stoinis. Skipper Babar Azam (18) started decently but was removed by his nemesis, Adam Zampa. Even though the likes of Saud Shakeel and Iftikhar Ahmed tried their best, they failed to help the team chase down the target.

Zampa, who started by getting belted by the likes of Shafique and Haq, ended with four wickets, which proved vital in the end. From 232/3, the team was bowled out for 305, losing the game by 62 runs. With this, Pakistan has now lost two back-to-back games after starting the tournament with as many wins.
