"Drop me if you can," Mohammed Shami told Team India management. Came in for his first 2023 World Cup match, grabbed a fifer and stunned everyone. New Zealand from being 243 for 4 to 273 all-out - a major courtesy to Shami, who had to sit out India's first four matches due to team combination. India and New Zealand lock horns in the 21st match at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday. Indian pacers gave a perfect start after Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first. Jasprit Burmah started with a maiden over to Devon Conway and applied pressure on Kiwi batters right from the start. Mohammed Siraj got the big wicket of Conway in the fourth over, thanks to a brilliant catch by Shreyas Iyer

Shami was introduced into the attack in the eighth over and he got rid of another opener, Will Young, on the very first ball. Had Ravindra Jadeja not dropped a sitter, he had every chance of picking up another wicket in his second over. The drop proved to be very expensive as Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell did not give any chance till the 34th over.

A dangerous 150-plus partnership was finally broken and it was none other than Shami who provided a breakthrough by removing the southpaw. This was the turning point of the match, although Mitchell singlehandedly fought at one end. Kuldeep Yadav then grabbed a couple of wickets and Bumrah took one as well.

Captain Rohit called Shami, the star of the day, to quickly wrap up the innings and he did the same. He got rid of Mitchell Santner first, and on the next ball, he dismissed Matt Henry. Shami delivered a cracking hattrick ball, but Lockie Ferguson resisted it. However, the 33-year-old completed his five-wicket haul in the final over of the innings with the wicket of centurion Mitchell (130 off 127 balls).
