The ongoing controversy between cricket stalwarts Sreesanth and Gautam Gambhir, stemming from their on-field clash during the Legends League Cricket (LLC), has sparked conversations on the eve of the LLC 2023 final. The final will witness Suresh Raina's Urbanrisers Hyderabad facing Harbhajan Singh's Manipal Tigers.
While speaking about the ongoing controversy, Harbhajan humorously remarked, "Bade bade shehro mein chhoti chhoti baatein hoti rehti hain" (in big cities, small things keep happening), quoting a famous Bollywood dialogue. It's worth noting that Harbhajan has been one of the most controversial cricketers of his time.
When questioned about his own infamous 'slapgate' incident with Sreesanth in the Indian Premier League, Harbhajan admitted fault, emphasising the need to focus on the present LLC season. He said, "Let's not bring that up. What happened then was not right, and I don't have any hesitation in saying that the fault was mine. I don't know what happened this time (between Sreesanth and Gambhir). LLC has offered good cricket this year, and it would be better to stick to that only."
Sreesanth accuses Gambhir of calling him 'fixer'
The Sreesanth-Gambhir clash occurred during the LLC eliminator between the India Capitals and Gujarat Giants on December 6. Sreesanth accused Gambhir of insulting him with derogatory language, including branding him a 'fixer.' Sreesanth took to Instagram to share his grievances, denouncing Gambhir as 'arrogant' and 'utterly classless.' The dispute intensified as Sreesanth's wife, Bhuvneshwari, joined in, condemning Gambhir on Instagram.
It's worth noting that Sreesanth was initially banned for life in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal. However, his ban was reduced to seven years in 2019 by the Supreme Court of India. The LLC controversy has stirred memories of the IPL scandal and sparked discussions about on-field conduct in the cricketing fraternity. The LLC final is anticipated to be a high-voltage clash between Urbanrisers Hyderabad and Manipal Tigers, with the focus shifting back to the game itself.
