The player auction for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) is fast approaching and the deadline for all 10 franchises to declare their released and retained players has ended on November 26. Although the trading window is also closed on the same day, the franchises can reach an agreement up to a week before the auction, which is scheduled to take place in Dubai on December 19.

The IPL trade window is a period before the auction which allows franchises to exchange their players. This process can be done by swapping players or by making an all-cash deal. Teams can restructure their squads and, if they have the money in their purse, buy the required players in the auction.

5. Shikhar Dhawan - SRH to DC

Veteran India opener Shikhar Dhawan returned to Delhi Capitals (DC) from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) during the IPL 2019 season. The trade was in exchange for three players - Vijay Shankar, Shahbaz Nadeem and Abhishek Sharma. Dhawan scored 1695 runs in three seasons for the Capitals.

4. KL Rahul - SRH to RCB

Rahul was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the 2014 IPL. He returned to Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of the 2016 IPL and finished the season as the 11th-highest run scorer and his team's third, with 397 runs from 14 matches.

3. Quinton de Kock - RCB to MI

De Kock was traded from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to Mumbai Indians (MI) at his auction price of INR 2.8 crore. Didn't have a great run with RCB, but the South African wicketkeeper batter was a boon for the Mumbai-based franchise, scoring 1329 runs for them in three years.

2. Trent Boult - DC to MI

The Kiwi speedster was traded from Delhi Capitals (DC) to Mumbai Indians (MI) during the 2020 season. The move proved to be a blunder from DC as Boult played a crucial role in MI's title-winning campaign in the same season. The left-arm pacer claimed 25 wickets to claim the third spot in the list of leading wicket-takers. 

1. Hardik Pandya - GT to MI

Hardik Pandya's move from GT to MI is considered one of the biggest trades in the league's history. Despite leading GT to glory in the 2022 IPL and the final in 2023, the franchise decided to trade him before the 2024 IPL auction. The star all-rounder will play for the franchise where he made his IPL debut.
