The Gujarat Titans are undergoing significant changes in leadership as they gear up for the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).  In a surprising trade deal, Hardik Pandya is poised to make a sensational return to the Mumbai Indians (MI), while Cameron Green is expected to join the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

As a result, the GT are on the lookout for a new captain, and according to a report, star Indian cricketer Shubman Gill is set to assume the role. Gill, who has been an integral part of the team, will follow in the footsteps of Hardik Pandya as the franchise's second full-time skipper in the upcoming season.

According to the TOI report, insider sources have disclosed that the management of the Gujarat Titans has already conducted an extensive meeting with Shubman Gill to strategize for the upcoming auction scheduled for December 19 in Dubai. The star batter has been a key figure in the GT squad since the 2022 season when they acquired him for Rs. 8 crores in the pre-auction draft. Notably, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opted not to retain Gill, providing GT with the opportunity to secure his services before the mega auction.

During his two-year tenure with GT, Gill has amassed a total of 1373 runs in 33 matches, maintaining an impressive average of 47.34. His outstanding performance in the 2023 season, where the star India batter clinched the orange cap with a remarkable tally of 890 runs in 17 matches at an average of 59.33, including three centuries, stands as the second-highest individual score in a single edition of the league's history.

Taking over the captaincy from Hardik Pandya, under whose leadership GT claimed the title in 2022 and finished as runners-up in 2023, the 23-year-old faces the significant challenge of filling the shoes left by the former captain, particularly after the heart-wrenching loss to CSK in the 2023 final, decided in a last-ball thriller.
