The ODI World Cup is over and now the focus has shifted to the shorter format of the game. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season is all set to throw some exciting action for fans across the globe. Billed as the world's biggest franchise cricket league, the cash-rich tournament is set to take place next March, but preparations have already begun in full swing.
All 10 franchises have announced their retained player list and now a total of 1,166 players have registered their names for the IPL 2024 mini-auction. Of these, 830 are Indian players and 336 are foreign players. The list includes 212 capped, 909 uncapped and 45 Associate players. The battle between team officials is set to take place in Dubai on December 19. This is the first time that an IPL auction is being held outside India.
Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Rachin Ravindra, Travis Head and Harry Brook are some of the prominent figures who will be in the auction. From India, Shardul Thakur, Umesh Yadav, Kedar Jadhav and Harshal Patel will go under the hammer. Meanwhile, England star pacer Jofra Archer, who was recently released by Mumbai Indians (MI), has not registered his name.
25 players with Rs 2 Crore Base Price
There are only 77 slots to be filled by all franchises, out of which 30 will be reserved for overseas players. Notably, 25 players have put themselves in the highest base price category of Rs 2 crore:
Harshal, Thakur, Umesh, Jadhav, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Sean Abbott, Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Head, Josh Inglis, Starc, Steve Smith, Mustafizur Rahman, Tom Banton, Brook, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Adil Rashid, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Lockie Ferguson, Gerald Coetzee, Rilee Rossouw, Rassie van der Dussen, Angelo Mathews
Kedar Jadhav is the most shocking name in this above list of players with a base price of 2 crores. The 38-year-old was not bought by any team last year, yet he decided to put himself in the top division. Interestingly, New Zealand's young sensation Rachin Ravindra has kept his base price at Rs 50 lakh, but the all-rounder is expected to face a bidding war.
Apart from Ravindra, Australian speedster Starc and their 2023 World Cup hero Head are expected to come out in flying colors at the auction. Starc is returning to the competition after a very long break and his former team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will be hoping to get him this time as well.
