The Indian Premier League (IPL) is known for giving opportunities to some young and budding talents to take part in a lucrative league. In the ongoing auction, there were some established players like Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins who broke records with deals of more than 20 crores each, whereas there were some young players who also grabbed headlines. The players like Shubham Dubey and Sameer Rizvi, who are spoken highly in domestic areas also grabbed good deals.
First up, it was Shubham Dubey, who was sold to Rajasthan Royals for 29 times more than the base price. Shubham's base price was Rs 20 lakh, and Rajasthan bought him for Rs 5.80 crores. In domestic cricket, Dubey is known for his finishing capability. Time and again he has proved his worth in that role for Vidarbha’s team. No doubt it was his hard-hitting ability which might have impressed several scouts.
Batting in the lower middle order, the left-handed batter Dubey amassed 221 runs in seven innings at an impressive strike rate of 187.28. The tournament's standout moment was his crucial role in Vidarbha achieving their highest-ever successful chase of 213 against Bengal, concluding with 13 balls to spare. Serving as the Impact Player at No. 5, Dubey concluded the match with an unbeaten 58 from a mere 20 balls, featuring three fours and six sixes.
Sameer Rizvi sold for 8.40 Crores to Chennai Super Kings
Sameer Rizvi from Uttar Pradesh (UP) emerged as a highly sought-after player in the IPL Auction 2024, drawing intense bidding from multiple franchises. Initially listed with a base price of Rs 20 lakh, Rizvi's value soared as CSK initiated the bidding, followed by Gujarat Titans.
The two teams engaged in a competitive back-and-forth, with the bid quickly surpassing the Rs 1 crore mark and continuing to escalate. Both teams remained determined, unwilling to concede, and the battle persisted until the end. Eventually, CSK emerged victorious, securing Rizvi for a substantial sum of Rs 8.40 crore.
Rizvi aged 20 has emerged as the top six-hitter for Kanpur Superstars in the UP T20 League. His outstanding performance included two remarkable centuries, accumulating a total of 455 runs in nine innings during the tournament. This impressive showing earned him trial opportunities with three franchises, including Punjab Kings, with which his state coach Sunil Joshi is associated.
