The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for the 2024 season unfolded at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. Every franchise was looking to fill in the berths that had in their squad leading up to the 17th season of IPL. Seeking their next title in the IPL 2024, the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians were also in it to strengthen their side even more. MI will be now led by Hardik Pandya, as Rohit Sharma concludes his ten-year captaincy reign. Rohit, who won five IPL titles during his leadership is no longer at the helm of the team's decision-making.
In the auction, the five-time IPL Champions looked to fill in the backup options for their seamers as well as spinners. With Jasprit Bumrah being their lead pacer, they needed someone who complimented him perfectly along with Jason Behrendorff. They did a good job as they roped in Gerald Coetzee for just INR 5 Crores, Dilshan Madushanka for just 4.60 Crores and Nuwan Thushara for INR4.80 Crores. In addition to this, the likes of Shreyas Gopal have also been drafted into the squad as a spinning option.
Moreover, stepping away from the captaincy role may prove beneficial for Rohit Sharma, allowing him to focus solely on his batting and playing style, sharing valuable insights on the field due to his experience and seniority. Mumbai Indians have successfully reunited key players, including Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and others, creating a promising lineup for MI fans. With Sachin Tendulkar as the franchise's mentor and Kieron Pollard serving as the team's batting coach, Mumbai Indians hold the potential to secure their sixth IPL title in the upcoming season.
