The eagerly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for the 17th edition has finally come to an end. The day saw some record-breaking buys while fans were also surprised by some of the young talents who made it big in the auction. But taking nothing away, the Australian duo of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins attracted record-breaking amounts.
The legendary Australian pacer Mitchell Starc became the highest-paid player in the history of the IPL. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) acquired his services for ₹24.75 crore at the auction in Dubai on Tuesday, surpassing his captain Pat Cummins, who was previously the most expensive player with a ₹20.50 crore deal and was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Another notable moment from the auction saw uncapped Indian batter Sameer Rizwi being secured by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for ₹8.4 crore, while another uncapped batter, Shubham Dubey, was picked up by Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL auction. Dubey witnessed a bidding war between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals before ultimately being acquired by the one-time champions. Punjab Kings made a significant move by acquiring Indian pacer Harshal Patel for a substantial ₹11.75 crores.
