 The Indian batter Ravindra Jadeja appeared poised to reach his century when he stepped onto the pitch on Day 3 of the first Test between India and England in Hyderabad. However, his hopes were dashed when England's Joe Root dismissed him, trapping him in front of the stumps. Despite the umpire's raised finger, Jadeja expressed doubt and immediately sought a review from the third umpire through the Decision Review System (DRS).

After scrutinizing the footage from various angles, the third umpire upheld Root's decision, favouring England. Nonetheless, the incident sparked a debate on social media, with opinions flying back and forth. The third umpire faced confusion when the Ultra Edge displayed a significant spike coinciding with the ball passing the bat.

However, there was also an impact on the pad at the same moment. Consequently, it became unclear whether the ball made contact with the bat before hitting the pad. Upon reviewing the ball tracking, the third umpire observed the 'umpire's call' for both the impact on the pad and the stumps displayed on the giant screen. Consequently, the final decision favoured the bowling side as the on-field ruling remained out.

Let us look at how Twitter has reacted to this dismissal of Jadeja;

India bundled out for 436

The Indian fans were expecting that the pair of Jadeja and Axar Patel would get India past the 500 runs mark but it wasn’t the case. Both the batters made a cautious start to the Day 3. This was probably the reason which resulted in India adding only 15 runs to their overnight score and losing their remaining three wickets.

Following Jadeja's dismissal, India failed to add substantial runs to their total, as Jasprit Bumrah was dismissed on the next delivery from Root. Axar Patel also fell short of scoring a half-century, departing a few deliveries later, as India secured a 190-run first-innings lead against England. The England bowling lineup bowled well on Day 3 and did a good job of restricting the lead to under 200 runs.
