Rohit Sharma fell early failing to add to his overnight score of 13. The Indian skipper saw his off stump ripped out as Anderson bowled the perfect out-swinger. The next wicket to fall was that of Yashasvi Jaiswal for 17.

James Anderson pitched the ball up to the batter as Yashasvi Jaiswal went looking for a drive. Joe Root took an easy catch in the slip to put pressure on the home side early on what is called an attritional day for Test cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah was the lead wicket-taker with 6/45 from his 15.5 overs. It was a fine piece of fast bowling by the Indian pace ace as he recorded his 150th Test wicket. Former England skipper Alastair Cook was all in praise for the effort put in by Jasprit Bumrah.

During his analysis on TNT Sports, Cook said “A couple of those balls, the Bumrah spell against Root, is actually very high-quality reverse swing bowling”. This was the 8th time in Test cricket that Root has fallen to Jasprit Bumrah.

The former England skipper also said “What is very clever about it is after the partnership, Bumrah didn’t bowl the first over of reverse swing, Mukesh Kumar did, and when they knew it was reverse swinging, they went to his best bowler”

According to Cook, Bumrah took lessons from the first game in Hyderabad. “At Hyderabad, he was playing across the line and got LBW. Early on he saw an in-swinger and played a beautiful straight bat, so he’s trying to do it. But what he does do, you’re looking to play the ball all the time”

Ending the chat the former England legend said “Bumrah has realised that and dragged him wider. So you’re trying to cover that but it brings another dismissal into play, so he’s got him out both ways now.
