During India's loss to England in the first Test at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was found in violation of the Apex Cricket Council Code of Conduct. The ace India speedster received an official reprimand for the incident, which took place on the fourth day of the five-match series opener.
In the 81st over of England's second innings, Jasprit Bumrah deliberately obstructed Ollie Pope while the batter attempted a single, resulting in inappropriate physical contact. Bumrah, who took six wickets in the Hyderabad Test, was found guilty of breaching Article 2.12 of the Code of Conduct, concerning inappropriate physical contact with players, support personnel, umpires, or any other individual during an international match.
Despite the offense, Jasprit Bumrah avoided a fine from the Apex Cricket Council since it was his first violation in 24 months. However, he received one demerit point, which has been added to his disciplinary record. The charge was brought forth by on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Chris Gaffaney, along with third umpire Marais Erasmus and fourth umpire Rohan Pandit.
Jasprit Bumrah was also fined 50 per cent of his match fees
For violating Level 1 of the Code of Conduct, the standard penalty ranges from an official reprimand to a deduction of up to 50% of the player's match fee, along with one or two demerit points. Jasprit Bumrah's admission of guilt spared him from a formal hearing. Consequently, he accepted the imposed sanction from Richie Richardson of the Emirates Elite Panel of Match Referees.
The second Test of the five-match series is scheduled to commence on February 2 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. India seeks redemption following their inaugural defeat in Hyderabad, marking the first instance in India's 91-year Test history of losing a match after securing a first-innings lead of over 100 runs. But as per the latest news, the star batter KL Rahul and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja are set to miss the upcoming Test.
